Look up from your Life! Sometimes when life gets to be too much, it can be difficult to look beyond the struggles and strain, and look up to notice all there is to be grateful for; the beautiful sunset or sunrise, another breath, the sweet fragrance of a flower, a smile from a stranger, or the smell of a baby.

When wrapped up in stress, it is as if we are in the webbing of a cocoon, unable to clearly see all of the possibilities. It’s when we slow down and purposely breathe, that options begin to appear and clarity expands our vision. Our heart’s “windshield” becomes clear of outdated beliefs, bias, prejudices, and anger. We step out into the world with a clean and shiny heart.

I spent last weekend at the coast and was reminded of the ever-changing ebb and flow of the waves. As I watched the birds floating on the incoming waves, occasionally they would disappear from sight, only to buoyantly bounce back up again. In ways, we are like the birds, bouncing along going with the ebb and flow of life, being knocked about and eventually finding our “center” again.  Only to be bounced about again, finding our way back to home, back to center. It truly is a trip of a life time… if only we don’t take ourselves too seriously!

I found these words that I had written a short time ago.  I wanted to share them with you.

As I settle into the reality of publishing a book and creating a CD, I am noticing that the book is a metaphor of my own “personal” growth and expansion. It reminds me of the evolution of a chrysalis, a caterpillar, within its cocoon as it is metamorphosing into a beautiful butterfly. What is amazing is that during this metamorphosis, every one of the cells of the caterpillar is turning into mush, except for the eyes. It is literally reorganizing itself from the inside out. As the butterfly emerges into the world, it is completely different than it was while in the cocoon. Similarly, when one is doing deep transformational work from the inside out, one is changing their internal world right down to the cells. When this occurs, one may “see” and experience themselves differently. At times there is a bit of awkwardness as they step into their new identity. I have noticed this as my own internal self of who I see myself as being, is shifting and changing. I have noticed at times that I see through my old “eyes” of how I see myself, and it is often very different than how others see me. My book has been my inner mirror and metaphor of my own metamorphosis deeply from the inside out.
It is as if I am shedding my old skin, a cocoon of sorts, and changing into something quite different. At times this can be disconcerting because it is so fresh and new, and there is a certain level of vulnerability underneath a thick layer of comfort and ease. As this shift continues, I am acutely aware of my feelings of insecurities and reminded that as one shifts into a new paradigm of being, that it is imperative that one is secure within their insecurities. That is to stand up and look the insecurity in the eye and bow deeply to it and release it with love. During this time of transition, it is very important to find comfort in resting, exercising, being in nature, meditating, eating right, and connecting with good friends. It is a wonderful invitation to acknowledge that all of the beautiful unfolding of “Self” is happening in perfect and divine order, and that all is well.

Namaste,
Catherine

During this time of tremendous emotional, mental, physical, spiritual and economic upheaval, it is imperative that we set a conscious intention to stay rooted within ourselves. To explore creative ways to go beyond coping with what is happening to a mindset of thriving and expanding during these exciting transformative times. I have created a list of possibilities that you perhaps can add to your list of options for creating “Inspired Choices” for Staying Emotionally Balanced.

  1. Talk and interact with others in a supportive way that encourages resolutions and solutions.
  2. With a compassionate and kind heart, offer support not only to others, but to yourself as well.
  3. Practice unconditional kindness, appreciation, love, and gratitude to someone or something, including yourself in all cirrcumstances and all things without exception. Notice your small successes.
  4. With curiosity, begin to notice your personal “Drama” or storyline.  Notice your “inner” dialogue. Is it expanding you or contracting you?
  5. On a daily basis, be aware of how much news you listen to, watch, or read in a day, and notice your reactions. Perhaps practice one day without observing the news, and notice how you feel.
  6. Spend time throughout the day in stillness. Practice “Being” rather than “Doing”.
  7. Practice noticing your breath. Deep relaxed breathing helps to reduce stress and anxiety.
  8. Nourish yourself with enough sleep, food, exercise, and water.

This is a wonderful time to create healthy communities. With that in mind, pay attention to who you spend your time with. Notice how you feel when you are with them – Do you feel uplifted and inspired, or deflated and frustrated? This is a perfect time to start some energetic “spring cleaning”. To perhaps re-evaluate how you have been living your life and areas that you may want to “dust out’, in order to bring in new fragrance and growth. The “shadow parts” of ourselves may be surfacing now, so with a gentle and curious heart, thank them for showing up and release them with Love and Grace. Each time you release something of your self, fill that space up with what you want to bring into your life. Perhaps it’s more compassion, love, abundance, inspiration, creative, or balance. Again, this is your time to create the life you have been wanting to live and wanting to fully step into. Rest assured that you are not alone and that each step of your journey is unfolding perfectly.

If these suggestions are helpful to you, please pass them on to others who may also benefit from inspiration. If you have any inspirational suggestions that have been useful for you, please share them with me.

With a Grateful Heart, Catherine
